Law enforcement presence in Brooklyn Center on Xerxes Avenue by IHOP

There is a heavy law enforcement presence in Brooklyn Center near an IHOP on the 5600 block of Xerxes Avenue South, from what we can see from Chopper 5.

Brooklyn Center police are telling people to avoid the area of Xerxes Ave North and 56th Avenue North, an intersection that includes an IHOP, Wendy’s, Wells Fargo, Taco Bell, and Cub Foods. The area is closed and will be for an extended period of time, police say.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has a crew headed to the scene as we are working to confirm more information.

Local community activist Nekima Levy Armstrong was live on Facebook, saying that she was in the area and heard a “barrage of gunfire” causing her to duck. She said she also saw a man running, who then fell to the ground.
