ALBANY, New York (WWNY) – Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing $30 million in tariff relief for farmers as part of her 2026 State of the State, citing higher equipment and supply costs affecting farms across the state.
Hochul’s office said more than 80% of agrochemical imports and 70% of farm machinery imports come from countries facing tariffs of 10% or more.
The governor said farms are facing higher expenses for fertilizer and equipment. Some farmers said their businesses face cost increases of up to $20,000 annually.
Milk exports have also fallen 7%, according to Hochul’s office.
