1. Mayor Mamdani tackles second winter storm

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is once again leading the city’s response to a major snowstorm.

The storm dumped nearly two feet of snow on the city — barely after the snow from the last storm had dissipated. During an interview with NY1, the mayor discussed how the city is staying on top of the big dig-out this time

2. Side streets buried as Staten Island awaits snow cleanup

Residents on Staten Island say side streets remain buried after a blizzard dropped nearly two feet of snow.

Borough President Vito Fossella said frustration is aimed at the city’s cleanup plan, not sanitation workers logging 12-hour shifts. Acting Sanitation Commissioner Javier Lojan said 65 additional pieces of equipment were deployed to the borough as crews struggled with narrow, hilly roads.

3. City schools to reopen Tuesday, over some objections

New York City public schools will reopen Tuesday after students enjoyed their first traditional snow day since 2019.

While officials say campuses are cleared and ready, some parents and elected leaders argued neighborhoods still need more time.
