Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been blasted for fueling anti-cop hate after an unruly mob launched a “disgusting” snowball attack on NYPD officers during Monday’s blizzard — as the Big Apple’s police commissioner launched an investigation into the “criminal” antics.
Agitators were caught on camera wreaking havoc as they hurled huge chunks of snow at police during a massive snowball fight in Manhattan’s Washington Square Park on Monday afternoon.
Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and ex-Mayor Eric Adams were among those to quickly point the finger at Mamdani — blaming his history of anti-police rhetoric for the violent scenes.

“This is disgraceful. But with a mayor who has a history of calling the police ‘racist, evil, wicked and corrupt,’ he set the tone,” Cuomo said on X as he demanded Mamdani denounce the attack.
“Words have consequences. We are seeing that in the growing disrespect for law enforcement — just as we’ve seen it in the rise in antisemitism. Real leaders understand that. This mayor does not.”
Adams piled on, too, insinuating that Hizzoner and others had set a “terrible example.”
“Watching officers get pelted with snow while they are out in brutal weather protecting this city should make every New Yorker furious. It is disgusting behavior,” he raged.
“And the politicians who constantly bash the police and refuse to have their backs are setting a terrible example. Leadership matters. Tone matters.”
“This is disgraceful. @NYCMayor and every elected official in our city should denounce this juvenile attack on our NYPD. Back the blue and hold those who disrespect them accountable,” US Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) of Staten Island added.

GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik blasted Mamdani’s silence, suggesting he was too busy creating social media videos to denounce the ordeal.
“And of course the Defund the Police anti-law enforcement Socialist Mayor who has a fully produced video with a costume for just about everything has absolutely nothing to say about this disgrace,” she griped.
“Just silence (and explicit approval…after all ‘the boot of the NYPD on your neck…’) as NYPD’s bravest and finest get pummeled.”

Hizzoner eventually addressed the mayhem, urging New Yorkers to treat cops with “respect” — but stopped short of explicitly condeminng the behavior.
“I’ve seen the videos of kids throwing snowballs at NYPD officers in Washington Square Park,” he wrote on X.
“Officers, like all city workers, have been out in a historic blizzard, keeping New Yorkers safe and cars moving. Treat them with respect.
“If anyone’s catching a snowball, it’s me,” he quipped.

Mamdani also didn’t demand any consequences, unlike NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch, who said police were investigating the antics.
“The NYPD is aware of certain videos taken earlier today in Washington Square Park showing individuals attacking cops,” the top cop wrote on X.
“I want to be very clear: The behavior depicted is disgraceful, and it is criminal. Our detectives are investigating this matter.”

Police haven’t yet said whether any officers were injured but City Council Speaker Julie Menin claimed several suffered facial injuries after being struck.
“These are public servants who are out in the cold, in all kinds of conditions, to keep New Yorkers safe. Causing injuries to officers is not a game. We cannot normalize this kind of behavior in our city,” she said.
Cop unions also called for arrests to be made.
“Unacceptable and outrageous — this is the environment that NYC police officers are up against,” the Police Benevolent Association said in a statement.
“The individuals involved must be identified, arrested and charged with assault on a police officer. And all of our city leaders must speak up to condemn this despicable attack.”

Detectives’ Endowment Association president Scott Munro also called out the troublemakers, saying: “What we saw in Washington Square Park today was not harmless fun — it was a deliberate, outrageous, and dangerous attack on uniformed police officers.”
Gov. Kathy Hochul, for her part, issued a brief statement after footage of the snowball saga started going viral, saying: “Our NYPD officers put themselves on the line to protect us every day. It is never acceptable to throw anything at a police officer, full stop.”
The violence unfolded when an organized snowball fight with hundreds of winter revelers quickly descended into pure pandemonium just as the snowy conditions were easing on Monday afternoon.

Police responding to the ruckus were quickly tormented and pelted with snowballs at close range as they patrolled the park.
At one point, an agitator could be seen dunking a huge chunk of ice on an officer’s head before fleeing.
The officers were forced to retreat into their SUV and were spotted driving out of the park.
“The NYPD is aware of certain videos taken earlier today in Washington Square Park showing individuals attacking cops,” the commissioner said in a statement on X in the aftermath.
“I want to be very clear: The behavior depicted is disgraceful, and it is criminal. Our detectives are investigating this matter.”
