Lewis County Democratic Committee Chair Cassie Robbins-Forbus will run for a state Senate seat in Northern New York.
Robbins-Forbus is making a bid for the 49th state Senate District, currently represented by Republican state Sen. Mark Walczyk.
I love the North Country and all the people and businesses that make it amazing. I’m not a politician, I have not run for office. I will make mistakes. But, I will always be open and transparent and listen to all voices in the area so we can all do better together,” Robbins-Forbus recently posted on Facebook.
Walczyk was first elected to the state Senate in 2022 and faced no Democratic opponent in the 2022 nor 2024 election cycle.
“For years we’ve struggled to find candidates willing to step up and run in this red leaning district. That’s why this moment matters. Cassie is stepping forward, ready to put in the work and represent our community and she deserves to know we’re behind her,” the Jefferson County Democratic Committee posted on Facebook over the weekend.
The 49th state Senate District is made up of parts of Jefferson, Lewis, Herkimer, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Fulton counties. It includes the city of Watertown and village of Herkimer.
