Starting on Sunday morning and not ending until Monday afternoon, a powerful nor’easter blew through the area leaving mountains of snow behind for us. New York City was essentially closed down on Sunday night when Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared a local State of Emergency which shut the streets to all non-essential vehicles from Sunday night until noon on Monday. Digging out on Monday morning was delayed, as you can see here on this Astoria street, as the snow continued to fall until the afternoon, along with strong winds and gusts as high as 55 mph. Schools were closed on Monday for a ‘snow day’ and alternate side of the street parking regulations are suspended for the rest of this week (meters in effect). LaGuardia Airport reported a total of more than 22 inches of snow when it finally stopped on Monday.
