The New York Giants head into their first offseason with John Harbaugh as their head coach. He’s already made wholesale changes to his coaching staff, and the front office has undergone a restructuring as well.

It only makes sense that the roster be shaped to fit Harbaugh’s vision, and that means some tough choices will be made. Some fan favorites could be sent packing.

One such player, right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, is an impending free agent. The Giants want him back, and he wants to stay, but the salary cap may restrict them from making a competitive offer.

Should Eluemunor be lost in free agency, the Giants have other options at right tackle. They hold the No. 5 overall pick in Round 1. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., in his most recent mock draft, can easily see the Giants finding a replacement for Eluemunor in Utah’s 6-foot-6, 302-pound Spencer Fano.

In January, I had Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate here. I think that’s still very possible, as New York needs a WR2 opposite Malik Nabers. But it doesn’t matter who Jaxson Dart is throwing to if he doesn’t have enough time to get the ball out. Fano started 36 games over three seasons, and he allowed just four sacks (and only one over the past two years once flipping from left tackle to right tackle). His technique and power are outstanding. If free agent Jermaine Eluemunor doesn’t return, I like Fano sliding into the RT spot in the lineup, helping keep Dart clean and driving defenders out of the way for running back Cam Skattebo.

The Giants, naturally, would like to keep Eluemunor, but they have many other needs. The Combine is first and foremost this week, but after that ends, the Giants will have a busy two weeks resetting their roster and getting under the salary cap for the league’s new year on March 11.
