Man found dead buried in snow at a complex for people 55 and older

  • February 25, 2026

DEER PARK, N.Y. (News12 Long Island) – Authorities in New York said a man’s body was found buried in the snow at a complex in Deer Park for people 55 and older.

This comes as parts of the Northeast are dealing with the aftermath of a blizzard that has left waist-high snowbanks in some areas.

Crews digging out of the blizzard made the shocking discovery.

A neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said she heard the commotion.

“I heard the shoveling, so what I did was I came to the door,” she said. “And they’re telling me, ‘There’s a dead man in the snow.’ I go, ‘What?!’”

Police said the man was found dead just before 4 p.m. Monday.

One of the workers contracted to shovel the complex said he saw the body.

“The guy, he was working like this. He touched it. He says, ‘What happened, what’s that?’ Then you see the head there,” another unidentified neighbor said.

Police have not identified the victim and would only say he was male.

Neighbors said they believe they know who it is. They said he lives in the complex near where he was found.

As the residents dealt with the death, they were also dealing with the piles of snow still unplowed.

“It’s unacceptable,” one neighbor said.

The snow was nearly waist-high in some parts of the complex Tuesday.

Residents of the complex said the unshoveled and unplowed snow is a safety concern, where in some cases the snow is blocking their front doors and they’re unable to get out of their homes.

Frank Daconta, 62, struggled to get to and from his home.

“A man, he’s literally trapped, he’s in a wheelchair and the snow is over, it’s about 5 feet in front of his door. Five feet high,” Daconta said.

Resident Eddie Velasquez was unable to open his door.

“I can’t even squeeze through here,” he said.

As of Monday night, there had been no comment from the building’s property manager.
