Police are investigating the mysterious death of a Long Island woman who was found inside her home after having been killed by some kind of chemical substance, according to police.
Officers went to perform a wellness check at a home on Larch Drive in Herricks just before 4 p.m. Friday, when they found the 46-year-old woman unconscious and not breathing — along with apparent facial burns, Nassau County police said.
The woman, identified as Aleena Asif, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources said the wellness check was ordered after Asif did not pick up her kids from school like usual.
The medical examiner later determined Asif’s death to be a criminal homicide due to asphyxiation by an unknown chemical substance. Further testing will be performed by the medical examiner’s office.
An investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding the death are asked to to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or dial 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
