The City Council held a hearing focused on a package of bills aimed at combating hate.

One of the pieces of legislation would allow the NYPD to create buffer zones around houses of worship during protests.

The council hearing comes in response to a rise in hate crimes since 2020 across the five boroughs.

City Council Speaker Julie Menin and Councilmember Yusef Salaam joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss more.

Menin’s district includes the Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island. Salaam’s district covers Harlem, East Harlem, Morningside Heights and Hamilton Heights.
