The Dallas Mavericks secured a 123-114 road victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night at Barclays Center, but the win came with injury developments involving two veteran forwards.
Khris Middleton and P.J. Washington both exited the contest after sustaining separate injuries during game action. Further evaluation is ongoing.
Khris Middleton Ruled Out With Right Shoulder Stinger
Middleton was ruled out prior to the start of the second half after experiencing a right shoulder stinger.
The injury occurred in the second quarter when Middleton made contact with Nets center Nic Claxton while competing for position. Middleton briefly remained on the floor before walking to the bench for evaluation. He returned to close out the first half but did not re-enter after halftime.
Middleton finished with six points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 15 minutes.
In five games with Dallas this season, Middleton is averaging 14.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 23.0 minutes per game while shooting 49.0% from the field, 35.3% from three-point range, and 88.9% from the free-throw line. His ability to function as a secondary playmaker and efficient floor spacer has provided balance within the Mavericks’ starting unit.
P.J. Washington Exits Late With Left Ankle Injury
Washington sustained a left ankle injury late in the fourth quarter while attempting to catch a pass in the paint. He appeared to roll his ankle upon landing and exited the court immediately, proceeding directly to the locker room for further evaluation.
Washington finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Through 42 games this season, Washington is averaging 14.3 points and a team-leading 7.1 rebounds in 31.0 minutes per game. He is shooting 44.8% from the field, 30.6% from three-point range, and 67.4% from the free-throw line. Washington also ranks among the team leaders in defensive impact, averaging 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest.
The timing of both injuries is significant given the Mavericks’ current roster landscape. Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II remain out for the season, while Cooper Flagg did not play Tuesday due to a left midfoot sprain.
The Mavericks will continue to monitor Middleton and Washington ahead of Thursday’s home matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
