The rodeo community is mourning the loss of Rimbey Rodeo Queen Kayla Peacock, who died in a motor vehicle collision Monday evening in Hinton.

The crash occurred on Feb. 23 as Peacock and her best friend, Danica Hills, were returning home from hockey practice. Both teens were killed in the single-vehicle collision.

A proud cowgirl

Peacock was 17 years old and nearing graduation from Harry Collinge High School. Family, friends and community members say she had a bright future ahead, filled with ambition, passion and promise.

A proud cowgirl, Peacock served as Rimbey Rodeo Queen and was described as a dedicated ambassador for the sport. In a Facebook post, Rimbey Rodeo called her an incredible representative of the rodeo community.

“She touched the lives of so many, and her presence will be profoundly missed,” the organization wrote, noting her grace, kindness and unwavering dedication.

From rodeo to the ice

Peacock was also a competitive hockey player with the Jasper Bearcats, where she was known for her determination, grit and team spirit on the ice.

Her death has left a deep impact on her family, including her mother, Stacey, and sister, Teagen, as well as the broader communities of Rimbey and Hinton.

How to donate

A fundraiser has been launched to help support the family with funeral and memorial expenses, time away from work, household costs and ongoing support for Teagen following the sudden loss.

Community members are being asked to keep Peacock’s family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tragic loss.

Those able can donate to the family on GoFundMe.
