COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTV) – In the first season that Queens baseball is eligible for the postseason, the Royals notched a historic regular season win on a Wednesday night in the Midlands.
Queens beat South Carolina 9-8 at Founders Park, the first win over a Power 4 team in the program’s history.
The Royals were previously 0-17 in such games.
Logan Norris and Dylan Schaefer provided run-scoring hits in a three-run third inning to get things started on offense.
Starting pitcher Aiden Quezada turned in a quality start with six innings while only allowing three runs before departing. He struck out four batters and induced seven groundouts on the night.
Grayson Childers delivered the big blow in the third inning, taking an 0-2 fastball to deep centerfield for a three-run home run to put Queens ahead 6-1.
South Carolina would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull within one run, but Jake Young held on to get the final three outs and secure a milestone win for a young program.
The Royals only mustered nine wins in 2025 while losing 44. This win puts Queens at 4-4 through eight games, and could serve as a huge momentum boost through the rest of the non-conference schedule.
Queens returns to action at home this weekend when Army comes to Charlotte for a series at Stick Williams Dream Field.
