A man wanted in New York has been arrested in Maine.The Fairfield Police Department says officers were dispatched to investigate a trespass complaint on Skowhegan Road just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday.Police identified the suspect as Tyreek Smith, 34, of New York City, but say he initially Gave officers a fake date of birth.Once police determined his actual birth date, they say they learned there was a nationwide extradition warrant from New York State for Smith for parole violations stemming from a felony assault charge.Due to safety concerns, Fairfield officers then coordinated with Maine State Police to actually take Smith into custody somewhere other than the home.A short time later, police say he was seen driving away from the home and several troopers were able to stop him on Interstate 95 and take him into custody.Smith was taken to the Somerset County Jail where he was charged with being a fugitive from justice. He was being held without bail pending extradition proceedings.
