WASHINGTON (TNND) — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani had a meeting with President Donald Trump on Thursday in Washington, D.C., according to reports.
The meeting with Trump was not on Mamdani’s schedule, but a spokesperson confirmed to The New York Times that the meeting would be happening.
Two people familiar with the matter said the meeting took place at 1 p.m.
The sources said it would be about building housing in New York City, the Times reports. Many of Mamdani’s advisers flew into D.C. as well.
Right after Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City, he met with Trump last year and the two had a productive meeting.
“We’ve just had a great meeting — a really good, very productive meeting,” Trump said after the meeting.
“We have one thing in common: we want this city of ours that we love to do very well.”
Mamdani said he appreciated the president and the conversation they had.
“I appreciated the time with the president,” Mamdani said.
“I appreciated the conversation. I look forward to working together to deliver that affordability for New Yorkers.”
Trump also gave Mamdani a shoutout during the State of the Union address.
“The new communist mayor of New York City, I think he’s a nice guy, actually,” Trump said during the speech.
