New York City actress speaks to Kansas State University students ahead of on-campus show

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A New York City actress is bringing her talents from The Big Apple to The Little Apple.

Heather Massie is bringing ‘HEDY! The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr’ to McCain Auditorium Friday evening.

Ahead of her show, she spoke to theatre students at Kansas State University.

“Well because it’s part of my mission,” Massie said. “I don’t want to just come and do the show, I want to do community engagement and contribute to the community and learn about the community.”

Massie attended a Fundamentals of Acting course at K-State.

“New York is just crazy to come down here to Kansas,” freshman student Saraeh Ransom said. “Like, I wouldn’t expect it, especially being a Kansas-born person to have someone from such a unique place come down here to talk to us and to do stuff like this.”

“I think it’s important for someone else to come in and say to them ‘Everything that you have is enough in the world and is going to contribute to your field or the people that you care about in special ways that no one else has,’” Graduate Teaching Assistant Jaac Nischbach said.

Massie’s solo play focuses on how Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr combined her passion of technology with performing arts, encouraging students to do the same.

“My mission is to inspire audiences, to especially encourage young women in science and technology, but also the arts,” Massie said. “To inspire all audience members.”

“I think the message that she’s telling is so enduring that people are multi-faceted and that there can be so many dimensions to a single person,” senior student Aidan Heusman said. “And it is that uniqueness that makes that person them.”

You can see Massie’s performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 at McCain Auditorium. It’s located at 1501 Goldstein Cir in Manhattan.
