CONCOURSE, The Bronx (PIX11) — Four people were injured after a basement fire broke out just moments after a manhole fire in the Bronx, Thursday afternoon.
The fire took over the basement at 1027 Walton Ave. just before 1 p.m., leaving four people with minor injuries, fire officials said. A fire was also sparked in a manhole near the location moments before, though fire officials could not yet confirm the apartment fire began as a result of it.
A spokesperson for Con Edison says the electrical company was also called to the scene, and crews have since been working to make repairs.
According to Con Ed, melting snow has been mixing with road salt and seeping into underground electric equipment, causing damage. Snow that remains on the street has also made working conditions challenging, the spokesperson said.
