The New York State Police recently added over 200 new Troopers to its ranks.

Earlier this week, the New York State Police announced the addition of 238 new Troopers to the “Long Gray Line” at the 217th Session of the New York State Police Basic School.

This year’s graduation ceremonies, which were held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY, celebrated the 238 men and women who completed the New York State Police Basic School.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, along with New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James, honored the new State Troopers at this year’s graduation.

“Our State Police represent the best of New York, offering nothing short of their full devotion each day to the safety and security of our communities,” Governor Hochul said. “Public safety is my number one priority — and on behalf of all New Yorkers, I commend these 238 men and women for their selfless commitment to service and congratulate them on this extraordinary achievement.”

Superintendent James said,

“Today’s graduates join a proud and honorable tradition of service that spans more than a century. The men and women of the 217th Basic School have shown remarkable determination, integrity, and resilience throughout their training. As they take their oath and begin their assignments across New York, I have every confidence they will uphold the high standards of professionalism and public service that define the New York State Police.”

This year’s graduation increases the State Police ranks to approximately 5,110 sworn members.

The 2025 graduates will begin reporting for field duty assignments across New York State on October 27, 2025, where they will take part in a field-training program for 10 weeks that is supervised by senior Field Training Officers.
