A musician from northern New York will celebrate the conclusion of a 50-state tour this weekend. Joe Ferris of Willsboro is wrapping up his tour dedicated to his indie song about a distinctive choice in clothing.”I think the world wants original music,” Ferris said in an interview with NBC5 News. Ferris introduced his song “Overalls!” to the whole country with his non-traditional tour, performing at landmarks, in coffee shops, and at open mic nights all across the country. He said he put more than 14,000 miles on his vehicle and picked up a lot of social media engagement. He often met people in his travels and ended up putting them in the videos he posted to his social media channels.”I didn’t know if it was going to work, if people were going to accept me playing music,” Ferris said. “It was nice to see that people wanted me to succeed on the road, as they saw I wasn’t somebody with a major record label. They wanted to see the underdog win.”Ferris performed in front of recognizable sights like the Hollywood Sign and Mount Rushmore. The “Overalls!” tour wraps up with a show on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Willsborough Bowling Center & Toto’s Sports Lounge in Willsboro, starting at 6:30 p.m. Ferris encouraged people to wear overalls and bring a song they’d like to sing. Ferris said the people he met and the experiences he had on the road since launching his tour in early January even gave him some inspiration for future songs.”If you are a musician and you’re considering going on tour, if you’re considering putting yourself out to the world, I say go for it,” Ferris said. “It’s doable and is not as scary or hard once you’re on the road.”Ferris said there will be food available for purchase at his concert in Willsboro this weekend. He will also be raising money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, he added.Previous coverage: New York musician brings his ‘Overalls!’ to all 50 states
