Rivas has been charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon, as well as assault, according to court documents.

Police say Rivas allegedly stabbed 42-year-old Yesenia Hall and her 16-year-old son on Sherman Avenue just before 7 a.m. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital, where Hall was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

Her son is expected to survive, police said.

Authorities previously told PIX11 News they were looking for Hall’s boyfriend, saying the stabbing may have stemmed from a domestic dispute. It is still unclear whether Rivas might be Hall’s boyfriend or the role he played in the victim’s lives.
