Top 10 Consumer Complaints in New York for 2025 Revealed by AG's Office

ALBANY, N.Y. (WKTV) — New York’s top consumer complaints in 2025 included high prices for essential goods, housing problems, bank fraud and online privacy violations.

The Office of the Attorney General released its annual list at the start of National Consumer Protection Week.

Retail sales emerged as the leading issue with 4,809 complaints, mainly due to problems with online purchases, deceptive advertising, price gouging, defective merchandise and poor customer service.

Internet issues followed closely with 4,595 complaints, which included data privacy and security fraud, digital media concerns, and internet manipulation frauds.

Automobile-related problems ranked third with 4,521 complaints.

Other major complaints involved credit, banking and mortgages with 4,235 reports, as well as landlord and tenant disputes with 4,041.

Additional categories included consumer services with 3,330 complaints, utilities with 1,423, home repair and improvement with 1,349, entertainment with 1,079 and travel with 718.
