Fifteen North Carolina women will be recognized Saturday in Jacksonville during an annual gala aimed at celebrating what organizers call “unsung heroes” in the community.
Colorful Voices of Sisterhood will host its Queen’s Ball Gala and Awards Night at the Hilton Garden Inn. The event begins at 6 p.m. and includes dinner, dancing, and guest speakers.
The group was founded by four women of diverse backgrounds who not only host the gala but also a TV show.
“We have a lot of women that are unsung heroes in our community that we’re pulling out to say – look here they are, and they are truly making a difference. These women to me work 24-7,” Diana King Barnes of Colorful Voices of Sisterhood said.
Fetihya Ahmed of Colorful Voices of Sisterhood said the organization’s mission is rooted in bringing people together across backgrounds. “Different women, different background, to empower young ladies to the next generation because we don’t see often a lot of diversity, that women come together,” Ahmed said.
