An all-female lineup of stand-up comedians performs this week in the Lower Mainland to coincide with International Women’s Day.

And the Queens of Comedy tour kicks off with two shows at Port Moody’s Inlet Theatre on Thursday, March 5.

Show producer and comedian Jane Stanton told Freshet News she looks forward to returning to Port Moody.

For this run, she’s bringing with her Cassidy Furman, Niki Mohrdar and Sophia Johnson, who will also join her for weekend gigs in Whistler, Hope and Squamish.

The Port Moody date, however, will have a charitable component: Partial proceeds will be donated to the RPDB Ripped Tides, a dragon boat team that is competing next month in the Inlet Spring Regatta in Port Moody.

Stanton met with two “Rippers” rowers after a New Year’s Eve show in Pitt Meadows and thought the team would be a good fit. A former competitive soccer player, Stanton said she wanted to support a women’s sports team and to give back to the community.

Stanton said she expects most of the audience at her Port Moody comedy shows will be women.

“It’s a ladies’ night out,” she said. “We’re free to talk about anything we want. … We’re giving our perspective.”

The aim, she said, is to showcase female talent while also giving ticket-holders a laugh while sharing stories.

All four comedians have extensive industry credits: Furman and Mohrdar were featured on Just For Laughs and the SiriusXM/Just For Laughs Originals Album (2024).

Johnson, an actor, was a writer on New Zealand’s hit comedy show 7 Days while Stanton has appeared on CBC’s The Debaters and Laugh Out Loud, and she acted in Disney’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, When We Rise and The Twilight Zone. As well, Stanton has shared stages with Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, Melissa Villaseñor and Michael Che.

Stanton said she plans to take Queens of Comedy to the Okanagan and Vancouver Island this spring.

Tickets for Queens of Comedy in Port Moody are now on sale. The shows are at 6 and 8:30 p.m. in the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.) Use the discount code QOC to get 17 per cent off ticket prices.
