Luigi: The Musical will hold a staged reading at New York’s Green Room 42 on June 15th-18th.

Developed in San Francisco, Luigi: The Musical uses comedic satire to explore America’s relationship with the consumption of violence.

The musical was inspired by the story of three high-profile inmates: Luigi Mangione, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Sam Bankman-Fried. They were held simultaneously at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, and the musical reimagines the three prisoners as exaggerated figures representing healthcare, Hollywood culture, and the tech industry.

According to creator Nova Bradford, the work uses comedy and satire to explore contemporary public reaction, media consumption, and the accountability of large-scale institutions in the portrayal of violence.

In addition to Bradford, Luigi: The Musical was developed by composer, writer, and lyricist Arielle Johnson, writer André Margatini, writer and Executive Producer Caleb Zeringue, and Executive Producer Alan Kliffer.

Tickets to the New York reading are available here.
