New York Jets fans who wish to see their team target Kyler Murray in free agency are about to get a jolt of excitement. Those who cannot stand the thought, however, should look away now.
You have sufficiently been warned.
On the same day that the Arizona Cardinals announced their intention to release their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback — on March 11, 2026 — betting odds dropped on his next destination.
The New York Jets have opened up as the betting favorites to sign quarterback Kyler Murray, per DraftKings Sportsbook. The Jets have been given +100 odds to acquire the services of the smaller-in-stature slinger, with Kevin O’Connell’s Minnesota Vikings close behind at +190.
Here’s how the top seven teams shake out on the initial day:
Jets +100
Vikings +190
Dolphins +300
Falcons +450
Browns +450
Colts +850
Steelers +1200
The Kyler story
Murray, 28, has been long-rumored to be on the outs in Arizona. Once former Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur took the head-coaching helm, it all but secured his exit.
The first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft is a two-time Pro Bowler, but his play has slowly declined in recent years. Even worse, he rarely plays.
This past season, Murray suited up in just five games. He threw for just 962 yards and 9 touchdowns to 3 interceptions with a 68.3 completion percentage.
In 2024, Murray started every game for Arizona — one of which was a thrashing of the then-Aaron Rodgers-led Jets. Although he collected 3,851 yards and 21 scores through the air (to 11 interceptions), this season followed another injury-shortened campaign (just 8 games played in 2023 due to an ACL injury).
Glenn’s potential interest
Many folks in Jets land believe head coach Aaron Glenn would have little interest in acquiring Murray. Rumors about Murray’s potential lack of commitment to the game have run rampant, which is something the Jets’ current head coach wouldn’t exactly love.
On the other hand, Murray is a dual-threat quarterback, and that is seemingly right up Glenn’s alley. So much of what Glenn has said in the past about quarterbacks leads the listener to believe it is true.
Glenn’s first major move when taking over in New Jersey was to boot the previously mentioned Rodgers — whose age put a serious dent in his maneuverability — for Justin Fields. Subsequently, Glenn waxed poetic about how tough a quarterback Fields is to game-plan against, particularly because he can scramble and break defensive backs when it’s least expected.
In any event, there is a rational case for the Jets to sign Murray, no matter how deep the disdain runs in this team’s fandom. This is particularly the case now that the Jets won’t have to trade for the man.
The New York Jets’ quarterback search hysteria has only begun. The team representing the favorites to sign free-agent-to-be Kyler Murray is just the opening salvo.
