NEW YORK (WENY) — New York State’s annual Spring burn ban will go into effect in under two weeks.
The ban will be in place from March 16 to May 14. During that time, it is illegal to burn brush due to the increased risk of wildfires.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says the burning of brush is the single largest cause of springtime wildfires in the state.
Small backyard fires, cooking fires and camping fires are still allowed while the burn ban is in place.
