Police are searching for a gunman after a man was shot in the stomach Wednesday afternoon in Parkchester.

According to the NYPD, officers responded to a call of shots fired shortly after 4 p.m. outside 1459 Taylor Ave.

When officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the stomach. EMS rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where officials say he is in stable condition.

Investigators shut down part of the two-way roadway while detectives searched the scene for evidence.

The suspected gunman ran away before officers arrived and remains on the loose.

Angel, who lives about a block from the scene, said the shooting was surprising but not completely shocking.

“It’s a good community, it’s quiet,” he said. “For this? Nah… that’s usual.”

The shooting comes just two days after the NYPD announced the fewest gun-related crimes during the first two months of a year in the city’s history, underscoring that gun violence is still occurring in parts of the Bronx.

Police say they are searching for a man dressed in all black in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
