ONEONTA, N.Y. — Marc A. Barbera has been named the new troop commander of Troop D.
New York State Police announced that Barbera, 52, of Oneonta, was appointed as the 35th Troop Commander by Superintendent Steven G. James.
His appointment became effective Feb. 26.
Barbera started his career with the State Police on April 24, 2000, at the New York State Police Academy.
He became a sergeant in January 2008 and was assigned to Troop K.
In 2010, he was named station commander and served in Oneonta for five years.
In February 2015, Barbera was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Marcy.
On Feb. 5, 2020, he became captain.
Barbera lives in Delaware County and graduated from Cazenovia College in 1996.
He takes over for Kevin M. Reilly.
Barbera’s command covers seven counties in Central New York, including Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego.
Troop D operates from 27 facilities and provides service to 167 towns, 89 villages and five cities.
