SYOSSET, NY — Many Nassau County residents – especially in Syosset – have likely passed by the Compton’s storefront and wondered the same thing: When are they opening?

According to co-owner Alex Compton, the wait may soon be over. The sandwich shop is tentatively set to open its doors in mid-April, making it the first Compton’s on the island.

Compton told Patch the process of opening a business on Long Island has taken a bit longer than expected, but he’s excited to finally bring the iconic sandwich spot to the area alongside childhood friend and co-owner Jimmy Collins.

The pair has completed construction on the shop and is now putting on the finishing touches while waiting for final inspections.

“It’s been a labor of love,” Compton said.

Compton said his passion for cooking — and a desire to vamp up New York’s deli scene — led him to open the first Compton’s in Astoria in 2018

“I always enjoyed cooking,” he said. “I didn’t like working a corporate job and felt opening a sandwich shop was the perfect escape to do what I wanted.”

The Syosset shop will mark the brand’s eighth location. Ever since he moved to Roslyn three years ago, he’s been wanting to expand the business.

“I really enjoy being out on Long Island,” he said. “We felt like there was a lapse in New York-style sandwich shops in Syosset, so when we saw the space, we thought it was a good place to start.”

The longtime friends are hoping to continue their expansion across Long Island.
