SACKETS HARBOR, New York (WWNY) – A Jefferson County educator is receiving statewide recognition as Superintendent of the Year.
Sackets Harbor Central School District Superintendent Jennifer Gaffney accepted the award from the New York State Council of School Superintendents at a ceremony in Albany on Monday.
Gaffney has been with the district for nearly two decades. During that time, she faced two major challenges: the COVID-19 pandemic and a local immigration crisis involving students.
She also worked to increase mental health and academic support for students through the creation of the Sackets Support Center.
“I am incredibly humbled by the entire experience, overwhelmed by it actually, and it’s something that I never would’ve imagined possible, and I think it really highlights the wonderful school community that I have the privilege of leading,” Gaffney said.
