EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — One New York City casino proposal was advanced on Monday while another was rejected by a community panel.

Bally’s proposal to build a $4 billion casino in the Bronx, on a golf course once operated by the Trump Organization, was approved 5-1 by a community advisory committee.

It was the third downstate proposal to advance to state consideration.

Another casino proposal voted on Monday afternoon, The Coney, the $3 billion Coney Island casino bid by Thor Equities, was rejected by the community advisory committee 4-2.

Like the other casinos that were approved by the local boards, the Bronx proposal had support from local lawmakers to turn the former Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point into a casino.

However, Monday morning’s vote was not unanimous. One committee member noted that essential land use changes were initially rejected by the City Council, after Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato, who represents the area, characterized it as “predatory development.” The mayor later vetoed the Council decision, keeping the project alive.

If Bally’s were to win a casino license, it would have to pay the Trump Organization $115 million, according to the companies’ purchase agreement. That is on top of the $60 million Bally’s already paid the Trump Organization to acquire the remainder of its lease for the city-owned golf course.

The final proposal, Metropolitan Park at Citi Field, headed by Mets owner Steve Cohen, goes up for its vote Tuesday morning.

Two sites, at Yonkers Raceway and Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, both received unanimous community advisory committee approval, advancing them to the state Gaming Commission. The commission plans on awarding three licenses in December.

Three casinos proposed for Manhattan were rejected earlier this month.
