Golden Eagles Split Day One at Heineken Queen’s Cup
HONOLULU, Hawai’i – The Concordia University Irvine beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening day of the Heineken Queen’s Cup Thursday at Queen’s Beach, falling to No. 12 Hawai’i before bouncing back with a 5-0 sweep of Chaminade to close out the day.

The Green and Gold opened the tournament against the ranked host Rainbow Wahine in a competitive dual despite the final 5-0 scoreline. At the top flight, Olivia Medina and Aliyah Moore pushed Hawai’i’s Julia Lawrenz and Izadora Stedile to three sets in the most tightly contested match of the dual. After dropping the opening set 21-18, the Concordia pair rallied to take the second set 21-18 before Hawai’i secured the deciding frame 15-10.
Gabrielle Reinking and Lexi Godbey represented the Golden Eagles at Pair No. 2, falling in straight sets, 21-11 and 21-17. At No. 3, Kelia Giusta and Ashley Rossi kept the opening set close before Hawai’i pulled away for a 23-21, 21-14 victory.
Rosie Cline and Jordan Vander Veen took the sand at No. 4, dropping a 21-15, 21-15 contest, while Teagan Algarra and Emma Hugeback rounded out the lineup at No. 5 with a 21-17, 21-11 decision.
CUI 5, Chaminade 0
The Golden Eagles responded in dominant fashion in their second match of the day, sweeping Chaminade to close out day one on a high note.
CUI jumped out quickly, with Kelia Giusta and Ashley Rossi earning the first point of the dual at Pair No. 3 with a convincing 21-7, 21-11 victory.
Rosie Cline and Jordan Vander Veen followed at No. 4, posting a 21-6, 21-14 win to extend the lead. At the top court, Medina and Moore delivered another point for the Green and Gold, defeating Leilani Ama and Kanoelehua Misipeka 21-12, 21-17.
Gabrielle Reinking and Lexi Godbey secured the fourth point with a 21-19, 21-5 victory at Pair No. 2.
Rounding out the lineup at No. 5, Madi Kelly and McKenzie Perrault battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a three-set comeback win, 18-21, 21-13, 15-5, completing the sweep for the Golden Eagles.
