NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD was searching Friday for a man who threw an object at an NYPD officer’s head inside a Bronx subway station, leaving him hospitalized.

The attack happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fordham Road B/D station in Fordham Heights.

Two uniformed officers approached the man—identified as 41-year-old Sergio Santiago—because he was suspected of an earlier assault in the 44th Precinct.

As they engaged him, he hurled a blunt object at the officer’s head and fled on foot, police said.

The object struck the officer, who was left with a non-life-threatening head laceration, police said. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

No arrests have been reported as the investigation continues.
