Hello, spring! We are so excited that you’re here. March marks the official start of one of the best seasons within New York state, spring.
We can look forward to brighter days filled with sunshine and warmer temps. Our favorite outdoor events will soon return along with our wildlife friends. I’m looking forward to hearing the spring peepers, chorus of birds along with watching the grass get greener and flowers blossom.
Spring is beautiful for many reasons but summer is my true, favorite season!
When Do We Spring Forward In New York State?
We have been looking forward to this day for months! Thankfully, we spring for Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, March 8, 2026. This will take place at 2:00am where the clocks will then become 3:00am. While we may lose an hour of sleep, we will gain so much more including longer evenings.
We will all get to enjoy the extra daylight!
This Is How New York State Views Daylight Saving Time
I haven’t met a single person who would like to keep Daylight Saving Time. Everyone that I chat with would love it if we operated on Standard Time.
The Old Farmers Almanac is always keeping us informed. We can refer to them when it comes to weather predictions, advice on gardening and overall information that we are curious about. I enjoy following them on social media.
Recently, The Old Farmers Almanac made a post on Facebook about Daylight Saving Time. This post included that the majority of Americans feel that it’s outdated to continue with changing clocks. They also mentioned,
“ In recent years, public frustration has fueled political momentum to make either DST or Standard Time permanent.”
The Old Farmers Almanac highlighted that Congress has not passed any legislation about this. There are states that plan to have a permanent time change and I like this idea! A map provided by the Old Farmers Almanac highlights where New York state stands on Daylight Saving Time.
New York State has a blue color over the state which relates to the explanation of,
“Currently No Initiative To Change Daylight Saving Time”.
What Do Other States Plan To Do About Daylight Saving Time?
According to this map from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, there are other states in addition to New York that do not have an initiative at the moment to change Daylight Saving Time. Some of these states include PA, NC, TX, NM and more.
States such as UT, SC, FL, OH and more would have permanent Daylight Saving Time. One of my favorite states, California, would like to have permanent Standard Time and I agree!
In the comments section of this Facebook post from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, social media users shared their opinions. Some of their feedback included,
“Stay on Standard time. This is the natural connection with the sun. All of nature is always on standard time naturally.”
“Split the difference. Set our clocks ahead a half an hour on March 8th and never touch them again.”
“Make it just one. Standard works for me. It doesn’t make sense to keep changing it.”
You can share your opinion in the comments section of this post and follow The Old Farmers Almanac on there as well! Cheers to early spring in New York state.

5 Ways To Know It’s Spring In The Hudson Valley
I always know that spring has started when I first hear the sound of spring peepers. This may also consist of flowers start to blossom, the greenery throughout mother nature and return of several wildlife critters.
Others may also agree and share their opinions too.
As we are different people, we notice things differently as well. While someone takes an interest in a woodpecker in the tree on a soothing morning, someone else may notice a lawnmower humming noise during their breakfast.
On WRRV, a Facebook post asked local residents to share their opinion.
The question stated:
“Tell me it’s spring in the Hudson Valley without telling me it’s spring in the Hudson Valley, GO!”
Hudson Valley residents were not shy when it came to answering this question. Let’s take a look at ways we can notice that it’s spring in the Hudson Valley from all age groups and different locations.
