MORRISANIA, the Bronx (PIX11) — A 27-year-old man was fatally shot in the head inside a Bronx NYCHA building Friday morning, as gun violence continues to plague the borough this year, police said.
The shooting happened at the Forest Houses on East 165th Street in Morrisania at around 6:35 a.m., according to the NYPD.
The victim was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head inside the building, police said. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
The man has not been identified.
There have been no arrests. A description of the shooter was not immediately available.
There have been 32 murders citywide, and 16 of them have been in the Bronx, according to NYPD data.
Of the 85 shooting incidents this year, 37 were in the Bronx. The borough also accounts for 45 of the city’s 99 shooting victims, according to the NYPD data.
Last month, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced that the Bronx will get approximately 200 additional police officers when the borough is split into two NYPD commands this spring.
