NEW YORK CITY — Police are looking for a suspect who attacked a police officer at a New York City subway station Thursday evening.
The incident happened at the Fordham Road Subway Station on the mezzanine level around 5:18 p.m., police said.
Two officers at the station noticed the suspect who was wanted for questioning in connection with a previous assault.
When they approached the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Sergio Santiago, the man hit one of the officers in the head with an unknown object and fled the scene.
The officer suffered a laceration to the head and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect shortly after the incident.
Santiago was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black and white sneakers.
No arrests have been made as of Friday morning. An investigation remains ongoing.
