Brooklyn detectives continue to search for the suspects who shot a 14-year-old boy dead late on Friday night.

Police said Johary Cantave, 14, of 50th Street was gunned down at the corner of 46th Street and 9th Avenue in Sunset Park just before 11:50 p.m. on March 6.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police reported that Cantave was sitting inside a vehicle at the location, with an acquaintance standing outside, when three male suspects wearing all black clothing approached.

Sources familiar with the case said the perpetrators engaged the acquaintance in a verbal dispute. The exchange of words turned violent, cops said, when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Cantave in the head.

After the fatal bullet was fired, police sources said, the three suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Another individual then drove Cantave to nearby Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident was reported to the 66th Precinct, which launched an investigation. It was the precinct’s first reported homicide and shooting of 2026

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.
