The New York Giants are poised to bolster their interior defensive line through free agency this offseason, reported ESPN’s Jordan Raanan in a recent primer on the team’s plans.
Under new head coach John Harbaugh, the Giants are shifting toward a more physical, run-oriented identity, with upgrades along both lines and improved run defense as key priorities. This follows moves like releasing middle linebacker Bobby Okereke and potential reallocations, such as shifting resources from outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux’s salary toward the defensive front.
It’s expected the Giants will add another significant interior defensive lineman in free agency. They have some interest in Franklin-Myers, although his contract price in the $20 million range could be steep. David Onyemata, DJ Reader and Sebastian Joseph-Day are also options.
Raanan previously reported the Giants’ interest in John Franklin-Myers, a versatile veteran coming off strong performances with the Denver Broncos, where his pass-rush and run-stopping skills stood out. Pairing him with standout Dexter Lawrence could significantly strengthen the unit, which struggled against the run last season.
However, as the NFL’s “lying season” unfolds—with teams and agents mixing true intentions amid conflicting reports—the Giants’ exact approach remains fluid. While some leaks suggest bold pursuits, others indicate a more measured strategy under new leadership.
