Two people were arrested after smoke-generating devices were thrown during protests outside NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s residence at Gracie Mansion.

According to the NYPD, the incident occurred during dueling protests on Saturday, March 7, including a far-right, anti-Muslim demonstration.

The devices were described as jars wrapped in black tape containing hazardous materials, including nuts, bolts, and hobby fuses, designed to create smoke. Police said one of the devices was lit and thrown near officers during the protests.

An 18-year-old suspect was accused of igniting and throwing one of the devices, while a 19-year-old was linked to a second device. Both were arrested at the scene.

The NYPD bomb squad retrieved the devices, and no injuries were reported, according to The Independent.

In total, six people were arrested during the protests, which drew counter-protesters and sparked tensions outside Gracie Mansion.
