Queens outlasts Central Arkansas in overtime to claim ASUN title, first NCAA tournament appearance

  • March 9, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WBTV) – For the first time in school history, Queens is going dancing.

The Royals took several heavyweight punches from 1-seed Central Arkansas, but held on for a thrilling 98-93 win in overtime to capture the program’s first ASUN Championship Saturday afternoon.

The win punches the team’s first ticket to the NCAA Tournament in the program’s first year of postseason eligibility since transitioning to the DI level four years ago.

Chris Ashby fueled the offense in this win. The Queens grad student tallied a career-high 34 points on a career-high 10 3-pointers.

Freshman Jordan Watford added 19 off the bench, while Nasir Mann finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Queens led by 11 with over three minutes to play, but Central Arkansas did not make the home stretch easy for the Royals.

Camren Hunter nearly single-handedly willed the Bears to a win late in the second half. He scored 49 points and made several clutch shots down the stretch to push the game into overtime.

But Queens regrouped and maintained composure in overtime, getting out to a seven-point lead that would prove too much for Central Arkansas to overcome.

Now the Royals will wait until Selection Sunday on March 15 to learn when, where, and who they will face in their first-ever March Madness game.
