Pittsford, N.Y. — St. John Fisher University held its 54th Model UN Conference on Saturday.
The two-day event had high school students become delegates representing more than 70 countries.
Students got to solve world issues through debates, negotiations, and writing resolutions.
“Each committee has a general topic they cover, there’s everything from gun violence to humanitarian rights, covering issues from all around the world,” said Hannah Xue, a student at Pittsford Sutherland High School. “If they work together and cooperate to come up with solutions, they can pass the solution, they can vote on two topics and have a debate.”
The event had more than 500 students come from dozens of high schools across the state.
