ELMONT, NY. — A 50-year-old man was arrested Friday night after he covered himself in flammable liquid while standing in the lobby of a NCPD precinct, police said.

Nassau County police said a 25-year-old woman was filing a domestic incident report Friday night at the fifth precinct when the 50-year-old man, the subject of the incident report, showed up outside the precinct. Upon seeing the 50-year-old man, police said the woman ran back into the precinct and asked for police to assist her.

At this point, the 50-year-old man, standing in the entryway to the precinct, started to pour a flammable liquid on himself, police said. Two police officers and a detective tackled him to the ground, police said.

After the incident, the 50-year-old was taken into police custody and hospitalized for evaluation, police said. Hospitalized along with him, police said, was a police officer injured during the arrest.

The man is now charged with second-degree assault, second-degree attempted arson and three second-degree counts of criminal contempt, police said. His arraignment will take place once medically practical, police said.
