Division rivals are making a rare trade in the AFC East.

The Miami Dolphins reportedly will send safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news Monday, adding that the Jets will sign Fitzpatrick to a three-year, $40 million deal once the trade is completed.

Fitzpatrick, 29, was drafted 11th overall by the Dolphins back in 2018. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 and returned to Miami in another trade last June.

Fitzpatrick has made the Pro Bowl five times and First Team All-Pro three times in his career. Last season, he totaled 82 tackles, one sack and one interception in 14 games for Miami.

This trade reunites Fitzpatrick with new Jets defensive coordinator Brian Duker, who served as the Dolphins’ secondary coach and pass game coordinator last season. The Jets were the only team in NFL history without an interception, so the hope is that the NFL’s co-interceptions leader from 2022 can turn things around.
