According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, former Green Bay Packers edge defender Kingsley Enagbare has signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the New York Jets. If you’re watching for compensatory draft picks, Enagbare should net Green Bay about a sixth-round pick. With that being said, Enagbare is expected to be fifth in the Packers’ comp pick pecking order this offseason, behind Rasheed Walker, Malik Willis (who has already signed with the Miami Dolphins), Quay Walker and Romeo Doubs, and the team can only cash in four comp picks per cycle. This means that the Packers can afford to pay a compensatory free agent a similar deal (from an average per year perspective) to Enagbare without having those four higher comp pick projections being impacted.

Look for Green Bay to make that move in compensatory free agency and then work the cap casualty and trade markets, which do not impact the compensatory pick formula.

Enagbare was picked 179th in the 2022 draft, after he was ranked the 81st overall player in the class on the consensus draft board. Over four years, he’s started a total of 21 games as an injury replacement and has played 1,896 total defensive snaps. He was also a significant special teams contributor, playing 614 total snaps. Notably, he was part of the “offensive line” on the punt unit, which is where his loss will be most felt in the kicking game.

Green Bay’s line of scrimmage is undergoing a lot of change this offseason. Earlier, Rashan Gary was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick. This means that the Packers’ returning edge rushers are Micah Parsons, Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver for the 2026 season. I’d expect the team to add at least one more body to the room, even if it’s another draft pick.

On top of that, nose tackle Colby Wooden was also traded to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for linebacker Zaire Franklin. Now that center Sean Rhyan has re-signed with the team, there’s a strong case to be made that the defensive line and cornerback rooms are where the team most needs to add competition.
