The New York Giants are among the teams showing preliminary interest in impending free agent cornerback James Pierre of the Pittsburgh Steelers, reports NFL insider Josina Anderson.

Anderson noted that “8 to 9 teams” are expected to have initial interest in Pierre as the NFL free agency period approaches, with cornerback remaining a significant need across the league. The Giants, seeking to bolster their secondary, are reportedly expressing interest in the veteran defender.

Pierre, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback, went undrafted out of Florida Atlantic in 2020 and signed with the Steelers. He has spent most of his career in Pittsburgh, with a brief stint with the Washington Commanders in 2024 before returning to the Steelers.

Over his career, Pierre has accumulated 147 tackles, four interceptions, 22 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one defensive touchdown.

Pierre enjoyed a breakout 2025 season, posting 30 tackles, one interception, 11 passes defensed, and a fumble return touchdown. Pro Football Focus graded him highly, ranking him second among cornerbacks with an 86.2 overall grade, including an elite 88.7 coverage grade, crediting his instincts and low yards allowed per target.

With the Steelers well-stocked at the position, Pierre could draw competitive offers as an unrestricted free agent.
