Several Hendrick Hudson athletes competed over the weekend (March 6-7) at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association and Federation Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
Senior Victor Delgado placed fifth in the federation and third in the state championship in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:11.55. Delgado later finished 16th in the federation and 11th in the state in the 1,600-meter run, clocking 4:19.81. Perry Quaye placed 19th in the boys high jump, clearing 1.88 meters.
Sophomore Sophia Savatgy placed 12th in the federation in the 55-meter dash in 7.24 seconds, and later anchored the Division 2 4×400-meter relay team — alongside Oona McManus, Ava Schembari, and Abby Mazzoni — to a sixth-place finish in the state championship in 4:09.16, setting a new school record. The previous record was set in 2024 by McManus and Savatgy along with Lindsay Tellez and Princess Golden.
Savatgy also ran 40.22 to finish sixth in the girls public school 300-meter dash, while Chloe Howard placed ninth in the state 1,500-meter race walk in 7:45.93.
Up next, Hen Hud athletes will wrap up the 2025-26 indoor track season at the Nike Indoor Nationals at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City on March 13-15. Competing for the Sailors will be Savatgy, Delgado, Quaye, Howard, McManus, and three relay teams.
