With the NFL free agency negotiating period now under way, former Alabama safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick has been traded from the Miami Dolphins to the New York Jets for a 2026 seventh round pick.

Fitzpatrick, the New Jersey native, will return upstate after singing a contract for three years, 40 million dollars after the trade is complete. He came into the league a two time national champion at Alabama and was drafted with the 11th pick in the 2018 NFL draft to the Miami Dolphins.

After playing just two games in year two in the NFL, Fitzpatrick was unhappy with his role under first year head coach Brian Flores. Ultimately, he was traded after week two of the 2019 season to the Pittsburgh Steelers for several picks including a first round in the 2020 NFL draft.

The 29-year-old, Nick Saban product, has been named to three first team All-Pro’s, five time pro bowler and was the NFL’s interceptions co-leader in 2022 with six.

The Jets are in desperate need of secondary after not recording a single interception for all of last season breaking a record that dates back to 1933. With the addition of Fitzpatrick, the Jets add a season vet to help try and break the streak this next season.
