CITYWIDE — AFTER A SHORTAGE of the official, mandated New York City garbage bins caused by vendor issues, the New York City Department of Sanitation says they are back in stock and available at many Home Depots, with options for in-store pickup or home delivery through the retailer’s delivery partners Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats. Buildings with one to nine residential units will be required to use NYC Bins for their trash starting this June.

In its release, Sanitation noted, “Some New Yorkers had previously ordered bins online but have not yet received delivery of their bins; all outstanding online delivery orders are ongoing and are targeted for completion by late March.”

According to the New York Post, vendor Otto Environmental Systems caused the backup after it “struggled to turn a profit and then left town before fulfilling thousands of orders.” Thousands of residents were still waiting on bins ordered from the company, the Post said.

Homeowners who do not use the required bins can be fined $50 for the first offense, with fines escalating for subsequent offenses.
