An Upper West Side restaurant known for its dumplings and dim sum has served its last meal on Amsterdam Avenue.
Jing Fong, the Cantonese dim sum spot at 380 Amsterdam Avenue (at 78th Street), has closed after eight years in the neighborhood. The restaurant’s final service was on Saturday, March 8, ending at 9:30 p.m.
In an Instagram post ahead of the closing, the restaurant wrote:
We would like to share that after eight years of serving the Upper West Side community, Jing Fong Upper West Side will close its doors at the end of service at 9:30pm, March 8th, 2026.
This decision does not come easily. We are beyond grateful for every guest who walked through our Upper West Side doors and every staff who became family. Thank you for being a part of our Upper West Side chapter and making it so meaningful.
Chinatown will remain open. We hope to see you there!
The UWS outpost opened in July 2017 as a smaller sibling to the legendary Jing Fong in Chinatown, which was founded in 1978. The space was previously occupied by Planet Sushi.
Unlike the original Chinatown location — which was massive, seating over 800 people — the Upper West Side restaurant was smaller, with a 50-seat dining room, an outdoor patio accommodating about 40 people, and a 10-seat chef’s counter where patrons could watch their food being made. The UWS location did not have the traditional dim sum carts, but offered similar menu options along with cocktails, beer, and wine.
The original Chinatown location suffered financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic and relocated to a smaller space at 202 Centre Street in 2021.
Jing Fong’s Chinatown location remains open. “We hope to see you there!” the restaurant wrote.
No word yet on what will take over the space at 380 Amsterdam Avenue.
