Despite facing a budget crunch, city officials clarified that rental assistance programs are vital for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who are struggling to make ends meet.

A new report by the nonprofit housing advocacy organization, New York Housing Conference, claims the city could reduce emergency rent assistance costs by intervening earlier in subsidized housing eviction cases.

Rachel Fee, the executive director of the New York Housing Conference, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to break down the report’s findings.
